I am not a big fan of PeTA, but if the USDA--whose requirements we all know are minimal--is backing up their findings, then I have to believe this. http://www.peta.org/features/investigation-exposes-cruelty-at-ferret-mill.aspx(((very graphic video at this link)))investigator's notes (graphic text)the USDA's findingsI am sitting here in tears. I want to take them all home. This is enough to make me NEVER buy a ferret again. Only rescues from here on out for me.
There is a group on FB regarding this too with lots of information and people who want to get involved and try to do something about it.http://www.facebook.com/groups/227969317251509/
I have a Triple F and she was an extremely aggressive kit, and undersized. Now we know why.....
How are you able to tell where the ferret comes from? Are there specific tattoos given?
We purchased Miss Violet as a kit and I asked which breeder she came from. We only purchased her because she was very very tiny. Half the size of the other ferrets she was with. The vet figured she had been accidently included with a batch of older ferrets. She weighed six ounces when we brought her home. I have never found a tattoo on her, or on her litter mate that a friend has. Both were very aggressive though, especially about food.
I could be wrong, but I am 99% sure that Triple F tattoos their kits. Some breeders don't tattoo their kits, but I can't remember their names at the moment. It's been years since I read that info. I know Canadian Ferrets (might have that name slightly wrong) doesn't.
Real Canadian Ferrets. I had one ferret that had a 1 tattooed in her ear, that was Laino. After some research apparently the Triple F tattoo is pink and inside a fold of the ear. I don't think Miss Violet will cooperate with my probing deeply into her ear. May try on Jethro, her litter mate, next time I am over there. Being that they are pink tattoos and she is almost three I won't hold my breath on finding it.
I'm not going to watch, but buying any animal at any pet store is cruelty.
I refuse to watch the video. I saw some images a week or so ago and I nearly ran to the toilet to vomit.
disgusting!I can't imagine why we all have/had so many medical issues with our ferrets.
I know PETA is pretty off the wall and their image tends to make a mockery of animal rights more than garner support for them... but someone needs to expose these barbaric facilities. I hope the allegations are taken deadly seriously, even if they're from PETA. Is there any way to find out the results of this? All of those mill employees should spend time in jail, and the company should face a lawsuit.
In the comments here ferretwoman posted a link to a FB group devoted to this. Highly recommend joining it as it sounds like the easiest way to stay up to date on what is going on.
Omg that makes me SO sad :(
Triple F has until tomorrow I believe to respond to the USDA's findings. Apparently there is enough in those findings for federal charges but no doubt 3F will appeal. I'm in a group of people who are following this closely and posting info that is found out on the FB board. There are links to lots of information there.
I sent a request to join. Thank you for the info.
And I see you were added. :)
I'd heard about this. The whole thing makes me so sick. I really hope that they get what's coming to them.
